All right guys, before the next season starts (Summer 2017), we have decided to explicitly recruit more encoders. The rationale behind this is... Ano-ne, mo... genkai desu, which means many of us are working on BDs or some projects that are tedious resulting in delayed / abandoned ongoing shows. There are a few like me who usually lurk around and cover the abandoned shows when they feel like it, but we believe we should just nip the bud in the evil. Therefore, we are hereby recruiting encoders openly.
What does this entail, exactly? You should have a few things first to become an encoder. Those few things are:
Enough time dedicated to encoding shows.
Decent system to encode things on. Usually an i5 will take 3-4 hours for a good 1080p and 1-2 hours for a good 720p encode.
Good and/or stable internet speed so you can download sources and then upload the encodes to the server(s) as well.
Available online so that we can have conversation actively.
Things you can have as a bonus, but not required are:
Extensive experience of encoding / subbing. It's good to have it, but as long as you can learn quickly yourself and get the show encoded, we don't really need extensive experience.
Things you should not have and we'd appreciate if you keep it away from us:
Your know-it-all attitude. We don't need that because this ends up in unnecessary bitching and violating regulations. Of course, if you are a true know-it-all, you would know how to hide your attitude from us, which will work well for us.
Your inability to listen to others. If you can't accept what others are saying and don't bother to listen to others' opinion, you're gonna cause trouble sooner or later. Hence, you should have the heart to listen to the staff's bitching, if it ever comes.
What we basically need is someone who can encode shows, dedicate time / effort on the shows, strive to achieve good release, try to resolve bugs which shouldn't even be there in the first place. We are NOT looking for people who might end up delaying a release upto 3-4 weeks. Ongoing shows should not be delayed that much and this is the reason we want more encoders who can shorten this delay in our releases. To apply for the encoder, you will have to follow these steps:
Encode a couple of episodes with OC. If you don't know OC, you gotta learn it from internet, or our guides section. You can ask for help on discord, but in any case you gotta be able enough to encode an OC release. You can't go further without completing this phase.
Quality-check your encoded episodes in case there are any bugs. It's awesome to rectify mistakes done by subbers, but it's ok to have bugs that the subbers had in their releases already.
Upload your couple of encoded episodes, OPs & EDs to any file-sharing service with public access.
Contact any staff member on discord and disclose your files link to them so that they can DL & check your samples.
You will be contacted further with feedback on your provided samples. You might be asked to improve on your skills, or if you're already good you might be asked to join us, officially.
About what members to contact for your samples, you can contact the following people on discord.
You should be able to look these usernames up on discord channel given that you have joined our discord server. If they are not around, you can ask any other official staff member to have a look at your samples.
If you are applying for this job, keep in mind that we are assuming the following for you:
You know how to OC an encode.
You have enough time to encode shows. You will be working for 1-3 ongoing shows in one season.
You will NOT be delaying your release to a point where zeust, or any staff member, starts to notice it.
If you can not commit yourself to above description, you are not suitable to take this task in the first place. It's in everyone's favor not to waste each other's time. It's not you, but me.
Lastly, if you're a good fit for us, let's have some awesome time and put together a work that will be remembered for a long time to come.

You need to get some brain first, then a pair of eyes to see, read and understand things carefully. After that, you’d need at least one hand to use mouse(pad) so that you can click on the guides section of our site.
As I said previously, this might prove difficult so you gotta get a really good pair of eyes.

Like Zeust suggested, you should at least use a i5 for it. Also a desktop would be the best suit for it, since with i5 some encodes can take really long, and you dont want all that heat inside a laptop for so long.
For the last, encoding at x265 vs x264 usually generates 5-6ºC more, so you will really be killing your machine with a laptop and extended encoding.

OC simply means using the chapters file to link two or more videos together. (You link them, not merge)
Try playing around with mkvtoolnix-gui to edit the chapters file and try linking videos using the Segment UID field. After you understand how to link videos together, OC is not much of a big deal.
(It may sound technical but it really isn’t that much)
P.S: And don’t worry you’re not an idiot, its just that that guide is too difficult to understand.
I am really interested to help out with this! I am a newbie to encoding and stuff but I am really interested and determined to do it. I am currently going through the guides now and I have managed to encode a 400ish mb episode to 110 mb! I will practise and play around with it for a while before I am ready to apply. Keep up the good work guys! 😀
Is the process automated to encode? as in you know generally what settings work of is this a process for each episode?
I have a 1700 running stock with 32gb of underclocked ram, and once I get around to getting the bios update, likely clocking the cpu to at least a 1800x range.
If the process is relatively automated, I could easily handle encoded some episodes for ya, I have the hardware to spare, but if this is a process for each episode, going to be honest, I tend to drag my ass on things like that.
At this point, we’re not looking for someone who’d encode when he feels like it or if it’s not a drag. We want someone with commitment, regardless of the hurdles. About the automation process, OCing usually requires human supervision and quite an obstacle to automation.
not so much when I feel like it, Like I said hardware to spare, if it was automated I could easily set it up at night, wake up, upload what’s done, rinse repeat till everything is done.
however if every episode requires human touch and interaction, I would have to really like the show I am doing and no one else will touch it.
Give me a heads up with a list of seriese no one will touch and I’ll see if anything is something I wanted and if the only ways it’s coming out is me pitching in, i’ll do my part.

If you really want to help us, then you can allow one of the staff to have access to your spare hardware and someone who’s willing to commit some time to quality-check / debug encodes can put your hardware to good use. The best way to shorten the quality-check process is to encode from a source that is very reliable like DameDesuYo or FFF. With such sources, you are sure that bugs are going to be very very rare and if you are experienced enough to encode well, you might not need to go through the every second of the episode, rather just check for the subtitle signs if they appear at correct times and that OP/ED are working correctly in OC.
For unreliable sources, you might need to correct the timing of the subs, fix typos and things like that as well as look into OC. And if you are picking RAWS and then syncing subs from other source, that’s a lot more work.
Those “few mbs” add up to a good amount over the course of a series.
Lets say the OP & ED both sat at 35-40mb each. U save that much per episode and over a standard season of 12 episodes that adds up to 480mb saved compared to a normal release.
OC-ing is even better on BD 1080p since the files are usually quite large due to the extra 360p which allows us to save even more space.
My OP for ansatsu S1 on the 1080p sat around 100mb each and that has 22 episodes. So that saved about 2.2gb on the OP alone and about 1.4gb on the ED.

This means that x264 couldn’t be found.
You need to add the x264 to the Environmental Path variable. (Look it up yourself)

for my internet is done upgrade, now i can download and upload up to 5Mbps…

What is the use of OC encodes? We can skip the Opening right? Or is it to save the few MBs?
