| Cold, unyielding glass of a smartphone screen illuminates the tear-stained face of a deeply traumatized teenager unable to process a devastating childhood loss. Suzu Naito exists as a mere shadow of her former self in the quiet countryside of Kochi Prefecture, having entirely abandoned her profound love for singing after witnessing her mother drown in a tragic rescue attempt. Her crippling social anxiety alienates her from her concerned father and isolates her at school, despite the watchful presence of her protective childhood friend Shinobu Hisatake, the popular brass band star Ruka Watanabe, and the eccentric canoe enthusiast Shinjiro Chikami. Desperate for an escape from her suffocating reality, she is convinced by her technologically brilliant best friend Hiroka Betsuyaku to register for a massive, globally dominating virtual reality network known simply as U. Upon generating an avatar based on her latent biometric data, the shy high schooler completely sheds her mundane identity and materializes as a stunning, globally recognized digital diva. Hidden behind absolute digital anonymity, she rediscovers her powerful voice and instantly captivates billions of users across the virtual metropolis with her deeply emotional performances. Her highly anticipated mega-concert violently derails when an aggressively hostile, monstrous entity known only as the Dragon crashes into the digital stadium while fleeing from self-righteous virtual vigilantes. Intrigued rather than terrified by his ferocious display of raw pain, the virtual idol decides to actively investigate the heavily scarred beast, diving deep into the lawless, hidden sectors of the digital realm. Ultimately, her unprecedented internet fame transforms into a frantic, high-stakes crusade to uncover the terrifying real-world identity of the monster before a ruthless online militia permanently deletes his sanctuary.
