Happy Holidays!
It’s that time of the year again and I’d like to thank everyone who has been enjoying our releases throughout 2024. Whether you were supporting us through donations or not, we wouldn’t have made it this far without everyone’s help and we hope that things will continue to move forward in a more positive direction in the new year.
The Elephant In The Room:
Before I get into the festivities, I’d like to address the massive elephant in the room that’s been plaguing us for over a year now. Namely, the server costs per month. We have explored looking into more affordable options with backblaze which allows us to scale our storage, and we would only have to pay $100/month instead of $250/month with our current usage cycles.
Unfortunately, the main issue with transitioning to backblaze and this has been the case for a long time now, is that I lack the required privileges to transfer everything from the current server to the new configuration. Zeust has always been the main head of the back end for the site and due to their life being extremely busy, I can’t guarantee when we’ll be able to make the leap. I’m also not experienced with running the back end of sites since that’s outside of my realm of expertise which is another issue altogether.
Rest assured, once I can confirm everything with Zeust and we begin to transition everything over, I’ll let everyone know about the good news. For now, I can only apologize and thank everyone who has continued to help keep the site afloat after we were on the verge of running out of funds to pay for the server nearly a year ago.
Let The Festivities Begin!
Besides creating a custom snowflake animation, I’ve hidden four Easter eggs throughout the post for users who want to have a little fun over the holidays. The first hint will be given for free, but the others will need to be uncovered by solving the hints to obtain the rest of the rewards. All rewards will be sfw since I don't want to hear about how everyone solved the hints as someone else walked by and saw something they shouldn't xD
Hints (answers are one word or together with no spaces):
Hint 2: I've spent a thousand years collecting grimoires and even defeated a demon lord. Despite how many fakes I find about my Master who goes by the name Great Sage Flamme, I've found a new purpose in life with my apprentice and vanguard. Who am I?
Hint 3: I've spent nearly all my life hunting down and killing more goblins than anyone around me. Even when people ridicule me about my silver rank in the adventurer's guild, I heed them no attention and continue to slay goblins without rest. Who am I?
Hint 4: The japanese word for sky.
Happy Holidays everyone and to the staff!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
(Four Easter eggs within this post? Sorry, I don’t get what to do with the answers to the hints. Should I write them somewhere? I guess I’m just stupid, because I don’t even get what the first hint is, the one that’s supposed to be free… :\ )
Ok, the page hadn’t loaded completely for me… When I posted and the page refreshed those wrapped presents showed up. 😀
That always helps. You just need to click on the presents to start hunting minus the first one which is free.
I know, I’m repeating myself, but there also still needs to be a transition away from WordPress and you should also get rid of much of the manual labor related to creating posts with all these tables.
WYSIWYG Editors, like with WordPress, are neat and all, but it would still be much more comfortable to just paste links and let the Backend handle much of the necessary stuff for you, no?
Also, like curling/requesting excerpts for the article flavor text enrichment.
(At least that’s my what I understood from playcools recent temporary approach article, when they wrote about having to spend too much time “just” to get several posts up and running.
I mean, e.g., at least checksums could also be handled automatically, if not the rendering of episodes/movies as well.)
Also, am I any step further with what I would like you to have/use and with what I would see many benefits for you, what I talked about in the last major article?
Honestly? No. Not. A. Dime.
But at least I have not forgotten about it, nope.
Cheers to another year, anyway :S
I hope I will someday present good news… sigh.
We appreciate the feedback and kind words regardless of the outcome. Rome wasn’t built in a day after all lol. We use a program that generates all the code for posts on the site. The posts the program generates will work out of the box and it automatically changes the post code as more episodes are added to the series. It won’t handle image buttons since it was never designed for that, but that requires very few edits to the post since the styles and scripts are externally loaded. Like maybe a minute of edits?
However, Playcool likes to customize his posts and find the perfect images which adds additional time to creating posts. Personally, I’m not picky as long as I can find something decent since I can’t fix what’s not there after all. If I find something better as a series progresses, I’ll do an image swap. So, I don’t need to waste extra time besides copying and pasting the main code, and changing the image links. Also, most of the staff aren’t good with programming or have the time to learn enough to understand how some of the processes work. If everything is automated and doesn’t require programming knowledge, that would make things considerably easier for them.
Even I’m not the greatest when it comes to programming. However, I do have experience working with code for projects on and off the site for fun. So, stuff like that is easier for me to digest versus someone else who doesn’t have an understanding of programming as a whole. Playcool has asked me for help with debugging many times in the past and I’ve even created scripts to make his encoding setup largely automated which has helped him a lot over the past year. The only manual part of the script is setting specific values which are remembered and applied to everything in the queue.
After encoding, posting/updating the post takes like a minute or so if my estimate is correct.
Thanks for all your continued feedback on this matter!
I will keep all of this in mind 🙂
To add what lord said, the thing we use is postar, but it is extremely outdated and the code you get out of it looks garbage in my eyes, and this code is only prepared to be used for one post, there is always some editing required, even if only a bit, to have a S1 and S2 of something, in the same post.
Refer to this: https://hi10anime.com/archives/658
In that post, you can see how it would look, straight out of postar, I just hate that look, to have titles that are not inside tables themselves, and also, nowadays postar cant find the information for synopsis or seasonal info, so that is something we always need to manually input.
Long ago the trend was to have a new post for each season, most staff done it, and I started like that too, but then saw some that included all in one post, and focused on doing it that way too, for obvious reasons.
But it does add to the complexity of things, and the format I use demands info that is unique to each release, so in bulk it becomes very tedious.
Happy Holidays!!
