Important News !

We did everything that we could, and removed the series that Funimation asked after we got the Copyright Infringement letter. Despite all of our efforts, PayPal decided that they won't give our account back, they will hold up to all of our money for 180 days (and pay for any claims from it, which they get until that time), and we won't be able to use their services any more.

Without donations we won't be able to pay our servers, and keep up the website, so we've decided to create some new polls, and ask the opinion from you all:

We won't have PayPal in the future. Can you donate with other services?

What should we do about the DDLs?

Please note: without PayPal it probably isn't an option any more (at least not any soon) to update to Gigabit, since we probably won't be able to get $350/month, the current (only one) 100 mbit/sec server, and the website can be paid from $150/month.

If you choose the second option we'd still need money for the website itself, but we could pay that if we're using Adfly for all of our download links, like before (and/or Clicksor):

How should we pay our website? (No DDLs, only the server for the website itself)

Please note: adfly+clicksor combined may help to pay the DDL server too, but without any donations in itself even both of them would be not enough.

UPDATE:

To keep the servers alive we've enabled bc.vc for the download links, since 90% of you support the idea in the polls, it should generate enough income to pay the website, at least starting from the next month, if you'd like to support us please don't use adblockers, and wait 5 sec before a download, it isn't much time! Clicksor has been enabled for guests: users who aren't registered (or aren't logged in) to the website. If you'd like to support us with Clicksor you need to log out to see the ads, if you don't want to see Clicksor you can register/log-in to the website, though you can't support the site like that, I hope everyone is satisfied with this solution. Since we don't really get donations now that there is no PayPal, this is the only way to keep the site alive.

  1. Sigh.. a sad day for us all.. PayPal are such bitches it ain’t even funny. I suppose either Western Union or Moneygram is the way to go really. Both are similar and are widely available, but Western Union is truly global and in Asia.

I suppose you don’t have much choice at the moment but to go adfly and clicksor. Meanwhile, hopefully the users will drive donations to stave off that.

    1. It worth a try, but somehow I don’t quite trust that kind of sites, since I haven’t see any news regarding to them myself….

  2. Since most visitors here are Asian, then Western Union should be the option. From my country, I can send you money via Western Union even from the mini-market next door.

I just need to fill up the document and it’s done. The money is sent over 🙂

  3. 1. use both moneygram and western union. so, I and the other asian can donate.
    2. use add and clicksor to get more money, yeah use it, no problem for me if it can help this site out from crisis. but someday, if you think that the money just from donating is quite enough, stop use add and clicksor.
    3. hi10anime staff….many people love this site, they will help this site, so dont worry
    4. if it possible to return the removed series, please return it. one of my favorites series is removed 🙁
thats all for me, mya can help

    1. Western Union and Moneygram are added for our website, but nobody donated yet, maybe it’s because Paypal was liked better.
Now that we don’t have Paypal hopefully people will use WU, and MG, than we can keep our servers alive without problems.

  4. I suggest Mediafire Pro be used, it starts at under $5.00 per month for 100GB of storage and up to 10GB per file. The issue will be getting around the auto-DMCA of mediafire files which killed animestash.

There are a few things that must be done to prevent mediafire from auto-DMCAing all the uploads:
    1) Use archives, .rar or .zip. (allowed for pro-members)
    2) Obfuscate the file names : S#5646.rar instead of ShingekiNoKyojin11.mkv
    3) Passworded archives, something like “hi10anime” as a password, or…
    4) A random string as a password, requiring solving captcha to get, i.e. enter the captcha to show the password “f5J9Afgj8”; this might not be necessary though.
    5) Do not link directly to the files from series pages, use link shorteners or something similar so that there exists no obvious/direct link between hi10anime and the mediafire uploads. (STRICT ENFORCEMENT in comments is vital)

This way it’ll be much more unlikely for files to be automatically tracked down and DMCA’d by mediafire.

*6) This would be the most paranoid method, but series/episodes are split in a double archived medium and hosted across different accounts or even different file hosts. i.e. ArchiveB.rar is passworded and contains SnK11.mkv. ArchiveB is placed inside ArchiveA – which is split into 2 files, ArchiveA.001 and ArchiveA.002. Part 001 is hosted on mediafire, and part 002 is hosted on something else like ifile.it.

Why do I suggest mediafire over the others? My experience with mediafire downloads, notwithstanding DMCA’d files, has always been excellent with regards to reliability, speeds and being resumable.

I am quite confident with my above recommendation, I’m pretty sure it would work. (*suggestion 6 is a crazy, but feasible for entire-series uploads.)

I can be found in the #hi10anime irc channel on Rizon.
    hatspade

  5. Have you guys considered other hosting providers?

One suggestion is to completely kill the direct downloads, and only allow torrents.

Seriously, don’t lump media fire and that crap into the same category as a torrent.

Switch to a cheap server, and torrent only.

The hardest part of this whole ordeal is finding a server with the capacity that you need.

Perhaps instead of renting a server, you could run one yourselves locally.

What level of internet is available in your area?

You could have the site and your file host ran separately.

For example, you could use the linode 20$ a month package to run the site itself, and then pickup business class internet at your home as a torrent seedbox. Throw together a 600$ server.

    1. “Have you guys considered other hosting providers?”
Yeah, they wouldn’t be able to host copyrighted content anywhere, regardless of the provider.

“One suggestion is to completely kill the direct downloads, and only allow torrents. Seriously, don’t lump media fire and that crap into the same category as a torrent. Switch to a cheap server, and torrent only.”
They already have torrents for almost everything, the torrents were never an issue. I doubt they’ll ever stop using torrents. The problem with torrents is speeds, not everyone can always get a reliable speed with torrents considering many ISPs shape p2p bandwidth. There’s also the issue of seeding, a 2 year old lesser-known title may end up with maybe 1 peer and be unavailable for all intents and purposes.

“The hardest part of this whole ordeal is finding a server with the capacity that you need. Perhaps instead of renting a server, you could run one yourselves locally.”
This is a very bad idea. Do not host any copyrighted content personally and then share it with the world. People can go to prison and face fines over $100 000 for simply seeding songs.

Now, I’m onboard with what you say about keeping torrents. They work fine for many people, but the DDL option should be kept. They don’t need to host the DDLs themselves – see my earlier post about how to reliably the files on mediafire.

One things, it might be prudent to use magnet links for torrents instead of hosting them yourselves – see thepiratebay getting in trouble for that and switching to magnet links exclusively. Or, even better, upload the torrent to kat.ph and thepiratebay and then link to the torrent pages from here instead.

To index, host, or upload files personally and have them linked from here can always be a legal problem. This is why I consistently suggest roundabout ways of doing it, mediafire-via-link-shortening, hosting on other torrent indexing site etc.

Well, when we got the DMCA letter, Funimation, and our Server Provider asked us to remove the content (the pages) from the website itself, where the downloads are.
Even if it wasn’t DDL, only .torrent files (/magnet links), or mediafire we would have to remove them in the exact same way, within 24 hours, or they’d cancel our server with the website.

Of course, there’s a chance that if the files are on mediafire Funimation will ask mediafire first, to delete the files, and they wouldn’t ask our website provider to delete the website, if they can delete the files instead, but we hope we can prevent similiar problems in the future with our “DMCA” page.

        1. “Even if it wasn’t DDL, only .torrent files (/magnet links), or mediafire we would have to remove them in the exact same way, within 24 hours, or they’d cancel our server with the website.”

So you’re saying even if you just linked to a torrent page on kat.ph or thepiratebay, you would be asked to take down the entire page?

  6. use free service upload site is not a bad idea, how about use them with something like expressleech.com or else? so the regular user can download with maximum speed.

for example, you can try that on animefire.ir, they’re also change the .MKV format to .AFR format (maybe this will help for the auto DMCA), i guess that will give us a bit satisfaction guarantee …

    1. auto DMCA queries not solely based on the extension, but also based on the link name and anime title. so if we’re not concealing the file name while hosting them in third-party host, it just only matter of time before they are wiped by the DMCA’s cold hand.

      1. yeah, just change the title into the confusing one, like shortened the title etc. i guess they can’t check those one by one @@

  7. Why not just… Keep using “ADFLY”. Clicksor??… Will just cause many more… PROBLEMS… For all that use this Site… There must be another way. For all of use too keep this… GREAT… Site HI10 Anime… Alive & Kicking… That we all enjoy so much being apart off.

P.S… I Know you will do what Is Best… Thanks Guys!!…

    1. We won’t use clicksor, but since 85% of the visitors are voting on Ad.fly we’ll consider using it in the future, if we can’t get enough money otherwise.

  8. I think I’m gonna kick up my suggestion again.

    1) Keep the DDL server up!! This site is the best “home” for me to download old series, where most torrents are gone dead.
Come on guys, we want the server to be kept alive, and now the server are on the verge of being shut down (due to lack of money to pay the server). Take few money from your wallet, I believe 1 dollar per person won’t hurt, even for Asian people. Moreover, based on number of visitors to this site, if each person will donate 1 dollar, the sum will obviously exceeds even the money needed for Gigabit server. Even I might spare some of my allowance to help this site alive.

    2) Next about the latest issues we got. The main cause that FUNimation comes to us might be the availability of One Piece here. I’m not blaming for it, nor offending those who loved the series, but after some researches about FUN, it seems they have relentlessly issued DMCA complaints to every web, every servers and even every torrent trackers that have their works up for share, especially One Piece. In future, if we ever got any trouble with this troublesome company (which I hope won’t happen again), it might be better if we try to negotiate with them directly.

    3) Go for the adfly and clicksor, if it is needed. To be honest, adfly and clicksor is rather annoying for me, who loved to download tons of episodes in one go, but if it’s for the server’s sake, then go ahead, I’ll bear with it somehow.

    4) For the third-party sharing, it might be doable as our last resource if the DDL server were down due to lack of money, but it’ll just be a temporary server. I mean, while the server were down, can’t we just move to a smaller server just for the web, and use those third-party as a place to download, as well as torrents, while we collecting money to pay up the server. After the money collected, then we’ll be back to this usual server, with the DDL active again.

Well, that’s from me now. I hope this site is never going to be taken down, regardless the reason.

    1. Your point about torrents going dead is irrelevant if they place the torrent files and media on their main server. The server would keep the torrent alive even if no other users are in the swarm.

It would be far, far faster than direct download for most users.

      1. Well, the torrent file itself may be alive at the server, but the seeder itself, usually low or even none, for the old anime.

    2. It’s a great thought to have the files hosted personally on their server, and I love it. However, copyright claims and legal issues will kill it very quickly or just consistently cause problems, it’s why no other sites host files themselves and always resort to 3rd party file hosts. Even those files get removed because of copyright claims.

It’s why I suggest hosting on mediafire in the way that I described in my earlier post. Yes, it adds a layer of inconvenience, but it’s the best that can be done.

The fact is that hosting files themselves to provide DDLs is just not a sustainable idea. Believe me, I more than anyone, would LOVE if everything could be DDL and stay up forever, but it’s not the early 2000s anymore.

  9. Well I’d say that this is a “test” for us, how loyal are the fans of this site, facing this kind of problem. If they are all loyal enough I’m sure that we’ll survive this one.

  10. Use western money to directly receive money so that no party can freeze your money/account. Upload hi10anime torrents to torrent sites like thepiratebay or nyaa.eu as a backup precaution. Set up adfly or clicksor so that it will pop up the moment visitors visit your site once per session instead of clicking the download links. Purchase a seedbox to seed all the files approximately 2 TB .

  11. Skip direct download and do everything via torrent. Observe how horriblesubs managed all their anime files via torrent only. Once you get back your paypal, withdraw all money out and replace donation method with only western union or moneygram. This way, it will be easier to manage the download and upload torrents. If the seedbox got copyright infringement or etc which is unlikely, you will still have many downloaders providing some upload speed.

    1. Thanks for your suggestion, but:

      http://hi10anime.com/polls/

      Can you download Torrents?

      Yes, Torrent/DDL – I don’t care (34%, 281 Votes)
Yes, but Torrent is very very slow for me (33%, 276 Votes)
Yes, Torrent is the best, DDL sux (19%, 160 Votes)
No, Torrent is blocked by my internet provider (11%, 92 Votes)
No, Torrent is blocked in my country… (3%, 24 Votes)
      Total Voters: 833

Should we use Torrents instead of DDL? (way better download speed)

      3) Use both – Torrent & DDL – !
(More work, but if people are also using the torrent downloads it *may* help. Though DDL will slow down the site, just as the same, like now.) (52%, 377 Votes)
      1) Yes, use torrent!!!
(Much faster speeds, as everyone who is downloading can seed them – much less strain on our server) (25%, 183 Votes)
      2) No, torrent is too slow for me / I can’t download torrent
(Though if it is only slow, it may be still faster than our current DDL speeds) (23%, 159 Votes)
      Total Voters: 719

If we’d be only using torrents I’m sure that we’d lose at least 50% of our visitors.

      1. Yes.

I really think my mediafire suggestion in my earlier post is worth trying. Everything else on the site can run normally as it would with just torrents, but for less than $5.00 a month, it’s surely worth it to try hosting on mediafire pro – with the method I described.

        1. Yes, your idea isn’t bad, I just wanted to say, that even like this we wouldn’t be able to host the DMCA materials, as we can’t risk linking them on our website either ways (not even torrents).

Otherwise it’s a nice idea, and if we can’t get enough donations, and we have to cancel our server one time, or something bad happens we can definitely try this out.

  12. Pretty much all the possible options that comes to mind have already been discussed above..
Just curious though, what series was removed?

    1. XDCC and TORRENT is best fit for optional download, IMHO…

and what are you talking about… they just put TWO optional :

      1. stay with current server , ( and wait til someone donating up to next 3 month), donating is mandatory unless U want to lose this site

      2. cancel DDL, and use free services… (if there’s not enough money for DLL)

and not everyone know how to download with XDCC,,

      to everyone:
“please… i’m begging you…. DONT BE SELFISH, by recommending download method that not everyone can use… such as torrent even xdcc” ..

the wise decision is option 1,, thats why this site is using it LONG TIME ago …

      1. not everyone can use xdcc? wow.. we can even post a spoonfeed guide to use that.. i made a spoonfeed guide on how to join the irc channel already.. yes i know that torrent is not allowed for some countries but i don’t know of any countries that block irc’s xdcc..

  13. MY THOUGHTS…

Remove ALL the Direct Download Links from this website and use other methods instead! This website became targeted because the download links from the file server are LITERALLY POSTED!

The quality that Hi10Anime provides will NEVER be accepted at BakaBT so just upload in AnimeTorrents so that everyone will be forced to seed in order to maintain a stable speed for the downloads and even get better speed than direct download from the server itself.

I suggest to remove everything that was uploaded in Nyaa (if there was anything) for they will just rot in that website because in this Hi10Anime community, no one knows how to seed back after getting the files that they want.

What can we achieve by uploading the torrents in AnimeTorrents?
    – AnimeTorrents is a torrent site like BakaBT so no one can continue downloading unless they seed back when they reach the maximum download cap.
    – Batch Torrents will always be seeded. Included the web seed if you want.
    – LEECHERS would LEARN how to SEED back! They would be forced to if they still want to get more files provided by Hi10Anime.
    – As far as I know, they are not bothered by licensed shit for now.

USE XDCC BOT IN the IRC Channel for Direct Downloads from the File Server
    – IRC is always free from that licensed stuff shit, that’s where to get the licensed stuff that we re-encode to Hi10P.

    1. – LEECHERS would LEARN how to SEED back! They would be forced to if they still want to get more files provided by Hi10Anime.

Some people don’t have a choice but to leech. Did it cross your mind that some people use this website purely because the file sizes are small?

I have a *5gig upload* limit on a 30day rolling period..download limit isn’t much better. This idea would screw anyone with low download and upload options. I know I am not the only one that uses this site because of internet limitations.

      1. totally aggree…
ok for XDCC (if there was no donator to pay ddl link), rather than using mediafire or etc…
NO for torrent no matter what reason is..

yeah that’s why in the first place… i’m telling to U all dont be SO SELFISH by RECOMMENDING torrent as a MAIN download option …

seems all of this guy don’t understand living in the country that has a slow+expensive+low limit bandwith for internet..
not to mention what country is… just come to the largest country in south east asia and you’ll know how retarded it is..

        1. I’d like to point out that im new here first so please pardon me for my opinion.

The problem is regardless of your issues in Indonesia, Hi10anime needs donations to upkeep their servers, and from the news i read they been pretty much paying for alot of the server costs out of their pockets.

To reduce the cost of upkeep on their side if most of the people here don’t donate don’t you think it behooves us to think of ways to help reduce the costs on their side? If only for us to continue to enjoy their releases.

  14. Could you go with a server hosted in another country?

Have you considered running your entire site through an encrypted VPN service, on a server that uses file encryption so the host itself can’t see your files? If you host in another country, and use an encrypted VPN in a second country, especially countries with non extradition laws, like germany, it becomes extremely, rediculously hard for them to track you.

It’ll slow things down, but they won’t even be able to find your host, let alone make legal complaints to them about it. You could find a nice cheap high storage host (even if a bit slow). The DMCA wouldn’t even apply.

I’d still recommend complying with DMCA takedown requests though.

If you are offering direct download links, you are just as liable as a torrent seeder.

As to providers who shape torrent traffic… that really, really sucks for everyone. Honestly, is the shaped traffic much slower than a 300kbit DDL?

    1. Our server is in Germany, and Germany is apart of the European Union.

We would need to find hosting in Iceland since they’re not apart of the EU.

  15. Hmm..how adfyl works exactly? Do we just click on the link and you guys get money? Do we need to click until “skip ad” for you to earn? And how many clicks? 1000?

I’ll try clicking adfly links as many as I can as a way for this site to earn…

    1. If I’m not mistaken, adf.ly pays $5 per 10,000 click, but the payment per click varied based on from which country the clicks come from. CMIIW.

  16. I also think XDCC is the best choice.
Everyone can use it, and it is much faster then torrents.
If some can’t afford (mIRC) just tell them to use a free client like HexChat to download XDCC>

  17. I think it would be best to use a free file-hosting site for the time being. I mean, use file-hosting sites plus adfly/any other money-generating sites, draw in some income, then provide for a server. Is that a good option?

  18. It’s a Shame that you have…Clicksor… Back on Site. But I Understand you did what you had too do… To keep HI10 Anime Alive. I know It will only effect the people who visit the Site. And not the one’s logged-In. I hope the Guests that visit the Site will join the rest of us. And make…HI10 Anime… One of the Best Sites Around for all that love and enjoy Anime like I do.

    Thanks Guys!!

  19. Remove all DDL downloads even if you get enough money in donations. The reason you are targeted instead of other more popular fansub sites is because you use DDL. Along with streaming sites, companies hate DDL sites the most because they lower the barrier of entry for those who want to watch anime for free. As long you offer free anime on DDL, you’ll always be on their radar.

I love your site and want it to survive but sadly I can’t see it as long as you offer DDL as your primary means to download.
