| High above Tokyo, a sudden flare of brilliant luminescence shears through the observation deck during an afternoon field trip, pulling three strangers out of reality and casting them into the untamed reaches of Cephiro. Kendo practitioner Hikaru Shidou lands on open terrain alongside elite fencer Umi Ryuuzaki and studious archer Fuu Hououji, stranded in an unfamiliar realm where mental will directly commands physical matter. Before the three girls can make sense of their surroundings, Master Mage Clef intercepts them to reveal that an urgent plea summoned them to avert widespread collapse. The kingdom borders on chaos following the abduction of Princess Emeraude, the sovereign Pillar whose pure devotion and ceaseless prayers maintain the land's fragile equilibrium. Held hostage by High Priest Zagato, Emeraude can no longer shield the terrain from corruption, permitting aggressive beasts to swarm the outlying frontiers. Clef grants the bewildered middle schoolers nascent elemental magic and evolving gear, urging them to shoulder the mantle of legendary saviors. To secure a return to Tokyo, the three girls must brave hostile territory to locate and awaken three dormant, mechanical deities known as the Mashin. Synopsis for: Magic Knight Rayearth | Mahou Kishi Rayearth | Taikasoturit (Fall 1994)| Three young girls, Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu, are transported to a magical world called Cephiro during a field trip to Tokyo Tower. They are soon greeted by Master Mage Clef, who explains to them that they have been summoned to become the Legendary Magic Knights and save Cephiro. The girls are less than enthusiastic about this idea, and only want to return home. Clef further explains that they must seek out the three Rune Gods to help them fight. He bestows armor and magical powers to each of them. They learn from Clef that High Priest Zagato has kidnapped the Pillar of Cephiro, Princess Emeraude. The Pillar of Cephiro has the sole responsibility of keeping Cephiro alive and in balance with her prayers. Without Princess Emeraude, Cephiro would fall into ruin. Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu must fight off Zagato's henchman and find the Rune Gods if they ever want to get back home.
