HAL is a 2013 sci-fi romantic film directed by Ryōtarō Makihara. Although a lot of sci-fi shows utilize romance as a sub plot, HAL reverses the format on it's head, and instead chooses to underplay sci-fi elements in favor of a strong emphasis on drama and romance.
